Tectonics

Architectural Tectonics is the exploration of design and construction.

Architectural Tectonics, looks at how buildings are to be detailed, how the structure of the building is considered and how to merge the concept design, the spatial requirement and technical design to arrive at a successful outcome.

Detailed Design Portfolio

Detail design is the art of transforming schematic and regulatory specification into a coherent and useable piece of information.

The understanding of how the building goes together needs to be considered early within the design process, not necessarily to dictate the form and shape of the design, but to ensure buildability and performance is considered throughout the design of the building.

Technology Report

Cross Laminated Timber

The following report will investigate the use of cross-laminated timber, commonly referred to as CLT within the construction industry. Due to the recent call for the construction industry to explore more sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies within the sector, CLT is explored because of its stature as a strong competitor. Throughout the report, several details will be evaluated and constructed in line with current Building Regulations and best practices. Standard drawing conventions will be looked at and how we produce drawings to expected industry standards. The final part of the report finishes by looking at a possible recommendation for the future use of CLT and Bio-Plastics.
